From Zero Gravity to Grounded Technology

Disuse atrophy and biomechanics expert Jeff Leismer, PhD (Founder and CTO of VibeTech) initially aimed to solve the problem of bone loss during space flight. Astronauts can lose up to 20 percent of their bone mass during a single year in space, thus limiting the duration of missions. Performing weight-bearing exercise, which prevents the loss of bone, is not an option in zero gravity.

While working on a solution, Dr. Leismer discovered that properly tuned and delivered vibration to the lower extremity muscles activated a natural stretch reflex. With just a 10-minute application, his invention could completely fatigue leg muscles without any physical exertion on the part of a user.

He later realized that vibration could be used to help people who cannot tolerate traditional weight-bearing physical exercise. Now, VibeTech, Inc. is revolutionizing the field of rehabilitation with its patented, clinically-tested neuromusculoskeletal stimulation equipment designed to help people regain their strength and independence, regardless of their degree of immobility.

One-of-a-Kind Design

We have engineered our product to provide a better, cheaper, faster, smaller, and more intuitive comprehensive treatment modality for patients with impaired strength and mobility.

Safety was the first priority in designing this new treatment modality. Borrowing from gravity-driven exercise principles, we arrived at how to safely recreate the key elements of weight bearing physical activity that are responsible for inducing the exercise response.

Once we identified how to deliver treatment safely, we investigated how to make this treatment modality as accessible as possible for all patients, including those who require transfers from walkers and wheelchairs: It typically takes just 30 seconds to transfer a patient from a wheelchair and to start treatment.

After designing around safety and accessibility, we figured out how to simplify treatment application by therapists. Our intuitive touchscreen controls and intelligent sensors and control system make the treatment modality extremely simple to apply, while at the same time enabling progressive treatments to take place to get a patient from their most debilitated state to full, independent function.
